1. Why are you interested in advertising?
Well, why would anyone want to be in advertising? The answer, not just any one would. You have to have a passion for this industry. To me, a large part of it is about making your consumer fall in love with a brand. I think it’s fascinating we are going to be the people responsible for that. There is something very cool and powerful about it.
I’m not in advertising because it’s fashionable. I always say I am in it for the bending-over-backwards, brainstorming meeting in 5 minutes lifestyle. And that’s just it. I am looking for a lifestyle advertising meets. Working hard and loving what you do. How many people can say that about their jobs?
2. How would your friends describe you?
Sometimes my friends laugh at me and think I am crazy. That I work too hard and don’t go out enough - I’m never home because I’m always gone doing something, such as going to a meeting. I like to be busy. But I learned a valuable lesson about a year ago and that was that it’s important to do exactly what you want to be doing and what you love.
Also, they would tell you that I don’t care about what anyone else thinks in that I can take the truth – also that I actually want to hear it. I’ll learn something from it.
3. How do you work under pressure?
Best.
4. What are the attributes of an ideal job for you?
I love this question. This might sound crazy but long hours, great people and good talent. I love working hard to produce something I can be proud of – so a job that allows me to do just that. There is no specific account, although if I had the choice it would be to work on a CPG account. Other than that, I just want to feel as though I am contributing.
5. What motivates you to put forth your greatest effort?
When I am encouraged by those whose opinions I value most. When someone expects a lot from me, I want to please them. I hope to meet their expectations – and then of course, I have expectations for myself. If I don’t meet them, I won’t be satisfied. Although perfection is never possible, I strive for it. You’ll never see me settle because it won’t make me happy.
6. What criteria are you using to evaluate potential employers and jobs?
Wow. That’s a really great question. To be honest, I am looking for an agency with which I fit. I pay a lot of attention to culture and how people interact with one another. When I walk into an agency and everything is quiet and people aren’t conversing, I wonder why. I like ideas and collaboration. I love teamwork and truly believe the best ideas don’t come from one person, but a mix of brilliant people – you have to see yourself somewhere if you plan to work there.
Also, I look at what accounts agencies have. There are actually a few accounts I can’t see myself working on and I will be honest about that. If I have no interest in something, my best work won’t come through.
7. What do you do to have fresh ideas?
I make sure I am comfortable and surrounded by people I like and that I can easily talk to and laugh with. I feel some of the best ideas have come from situations when you least expect to brainstorm something - a something that turns out to be brilliant.
8. What are you most proud of?
The fact that I know what I want. I chose advertising as my major, was competitive enough for the program and was one of 40 students accepted into the major. Ever since I have never looked back. I have immersed myself in the industry and I am so happy to be able to look forward to what it is that I will do when I graduate. Most people don’t know what they want to do right out of college. I’m lucky.
I've graduated got 72 days to go until graduation, and couldn't be more excited!
This is my way of counting down the days and will just be updates along the way...
